On January 25, 2012, about 1515 eastern standard time, a Cessna 210E, N7130U, experienced a loss of engine power while maneuvering in the traffic pattern at the Spruce Creek Airport (7FL6), Daytona Beach, Florida. The pilot made a forced landing short of the runway and the airplane was substantially damaged. The airplane was registered to and operated by the private pilot under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The private pilot received minor injuries. The local flight had originated shortly before the accident.

According to the pilot, it was the first flight after an engine installation and he planned to stay in the traffic pattern. Prior to departure he conducted an engine run-up and magneto check. After everything was checked he departed runway 5 and climbed to traffic pattern altitude. While on the downwind leg the engine lost partial power. The pilot attempted to return to the airport but was unsuccessful and made a forced landing short of the runway.

Examination of the airplane by a Federal Aviation Inspector on scene confirmed structural damage to the airframe. The airplane was recovered pending further examination.

A man flying a Cessna 210, went down this afternoon after the engine cut off, a police radio dispatch sergeant said.

The pilot, James Clarry, crashed the aircraft at 3:17 p.m. in a wooded area just west of the Spruce Creek Fly-In, said Sgt. Ted Richard. He landed between North Spruce Creek Circle and Spruce Creek Circle, Richard said.

"The engine cut off and he went down," Richard said this afternoon.

Clarry's injuries however, were not serious, Richard said.
