COLDEN, NY-- The Erie County Sheriff's Department is investigating a small plane crash landing in Colden.

Deputies received the call around 3:30pm for a plane down off Lewis Road.

According to the Sheriff's Office the pilot was having engine trouble and made an emergency landing and it got a little rough because it was back in the woods.

The pilot is 58 year old Thomas Treharne of South Wales. His passenger was 16-year-old Kristopher Zeigler from Orchard Park.

Treharne and Zeigler left Lancaster Airport Friday afternoon for a plane ride that, investigators say has been planned for awhile.

The two know each other from Church. No one was hurt in the crash landing.

The Sheriff's Department says the FAA has also been called to investigate what happened.

It appears the emergency landing was due to engine failure, with damage to the left wing and propeller.   The plane was fairly intact when it landed.   Two occupants reportedly got out safely, and walked away from the aircraft. They are being evaluated by medical personnel on the scene.

Friday was the perfect day for a sight-seeing trip, but something went wrong and it turned into a crash landing. The pilot's experience is credited in allowing him and a boy to walk away from it.

At about 3:45 p.m., the plane crash landed into a field on Golden Rod Road in Colden in a field. The pilot is from South Wales and was taking a boy from his church on a sight-seeing flight over the Colden hills. He flew out of Lancaster Airport, but at some point, he radioed authorities to tell them the engine had quit and he had to bring the plane down somewhere.
