MYFOXNY.COM - A single-engine aircraft landed safely in the Rockaway surf near Beach 56 Street.

It happened Monday at 7:05 p.m.

SkyFoxHD showed images of the plane pointed toward the land with the surf covering the wheels of the plane.

The pilot and two passengers on board were not hurt. NYPD Aviation and Harbor Units responded to the scene. The cause of the mishap is under investigation.

Police said the plane took off from Farmingdale, N.Y. on Long Island and was headed west. The destination was not immediately known.

Video from the scene showed a single man in the water in front of the plane doing something at the front landing gear. Several other people were on the beach.

The Piper PA-28-161 is registered to Plane Nonsense Inc. of Bear, Del. Another of the company's planes crashed into the fence at the end of the runway at a Mass. airport last September.
