PIEDMONT, SC (WYFF) - An Upstate man was forced to crash land his homemade plane in some trees off Roper Road in Piedmont Saturday afternoon.
According to the pilot's son, they were testing the plane they had spent 5 years building.
The son said during a second take-off attempt the plane lost power and couldn't stay in the air, and his father landed it as best he could in the tree-tops.
Firefighters used a ladder to reach the pilot, and he climbed down safely. The pilot was not injured.
