KFNL: Runway reopens. Fort Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport, Fort Collins/Loveland, Colorado.

September 1, 2011

LOVELAND - The main runway at the Fort Collins-Loveland Airport has reopened after its first repaving in more than 20 years.

After receiving a $7 million funding allocation from the Federal Aviation Administration, the runway was closed Aug. 15. During the two-week closure, the top six inches of asphalt was removed and replaced along the entire 8,500-foot-long runway.

Work also included improved leveling of the runway. Additional touch-up work is continuing but the runway remains open and operational with commercial jet airline service resuming.

In October, grooves will be cut into the runway's surface to improve aircraft braking and water runoff.
