Port Kaituma crash-landing: Aircraft damaged beyond repair

As investigations continue into the crash-landing of a Trans Guyana Airways aircraft at Port Kaituma, officials from the Civil Aviation Authority have taken the decision to leave the wreckage at the crash site.

One official in an invited comment said that when the investigating team visited the site it was determined that most of the aircraft was damaged beyond repair. It was also disclosed that the Authority has received a written report from the pilot who was flying the aircraft at the time of the incident.

Two Saturdays ago, the aircraft crash-landed at the Port Kaituma airstrip with three passengers and a female pilot on board.

All four persons escaped without injuries; however, the pilot was reportedly traumatized by the ordeal. Reports out of the area suggested that the aircraft crashed into a fence and a billboard. Authorities believe that bad weather may have been the main contributing factor.

And a few days later another Trans Guyana aircraft skidded off the runway at Mabaruma. No one was injured in that incident. Shortly after the aircraft was flown back to the city and, according to officials, has been back in operation ever since.
