Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. vows to help upgrade Surigao Airport . (Philippines)

SURIGAO CITY, Sept. 13 (PIA) -- Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. expressed support for the expansion of the Surigao City Airport.

“Your airport’s runway is too short," Revilla, chair of both Public Works and Public Services committees, said during a press conference here on September 10.

Data from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) revealed that the current length of the airport’s runway is only 1,708 meters and needs an additional 400 meters to accommodate an Airbus.

He said that he will help in lobbying this concern to the national government. "We will study the possibility of expanding the runway or even transfering it to a new site,” Revilla said.

Mayor Matugas said this will help in improving the economy and promote tourism, not just in Surigao City, but in the entire province as well.
