Kirksville, Missouri: K-REDI wants to sell airplane hangar

Kirksville, Mo. —  The hangar once partially owned by Human Identification Technologies-Missouri is likely to be put up for sale by its current owner, K-REDI, in the near future.

Conversation turned to the topic of the hangar during Director of Job Creation Phil Tate's report, with board member Ken Read asking if there was even a pricetag on the space at the Kirksville Regional Airport. When told there wasn't, he responded, "That's my point."

"This is going nowhere," Read said.

Board members estimaged K-REDI has paid more than $130,000 to become owners of the hangar. It was originally purchased as the first part of a sale that was intended to end with H.I.T. buying the facility. But as the DNA lab business faltered, so did those plans, and K-REDI eventually paid H.I.T. to obtain exclusive ownership of the facility.

That transaction was completed several months ago. K-REDI has no use for the hangar and there is apparently little interest from prospects nationwide on obtaining a hangar as part of their site selection.

"I don't know of any reason to keep the hangar," Tate said.

The board agreed to discuss the best way to approach a sale - whether to set a price and advertise the sale, or attempt to solicit bids - during executive session.

Complicating matters is that K-REDI only owns the hangar structure itself. Property at the airport is owned by the city, and K-REDI leases the land on which the hangar is built. The current lease is a year-to-year contract.
