Russia grounds more airlines after hockey team crash

Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency has annulled the licenses of three airlines and suspended another three after a comprehensive check initiated in the wake of a recent plane crash that wiped out the Lokomotiv ice hockey team, the agency said on Monday.

The agency has revoked licenses from Ilin Airline, the airline of the Ulyanovsk Higher Civil Aviation School and YAK-Servis, the owner of the Yak-42 airliner which crashed near Yaroslavl on September 7, killing the entire. The agency also suspended the licenses of Avis-Amur, Jetalliance East and the Beriev Aircraft Company, it said in a statement.

The watchdog said the check might result in the revocation of licenses of 30 Russian mid-sized airlines which do not comply with financial and safety requirements.
