A senior Kolkata airport official today died after falling from the sixth floor of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) building in the city, police said.

ATC regional general manager KK Gupta was brought dead at a nearby hospital after he was found lying on the ground below the building at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, they said.

"Prima facie, we have come to know that he was suffering from depression," a police official said.

Gupta, 51, a resident of Dum Dum area of the city, was on duty, he said.

Airport sources said employees in the apron area heard a loud sound on the ground floor when they rushed and found Gupta lying there.

Police said they were probing if it was a case of suicide or murder. Gupta's post mortem report was also awaited.
