A pilot walked away with minor injuries after crashing his two-seater plane east of Montreal Friday morning.

The federal Transportation Safety Board is now investigating after the Zenith plane stalled and plunged 200 metres shortly after the pilot took off from an airport near St. Mathieu-de-Beloeil.

The pilot, 60, refused to be transported to hospital and was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

He has been flying for more than 15 years.

The area around the aircraft remained blocked off by police Friday afternoon for fear it was leaking fuel.

A 60-year-old Quebec pilot who crashed his airplane in a farmer’s field on Friday walked away uninjured.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. in St-Mathieu de Beloeil, Que.

Those nearby who heard the crash called 9-1-1.

The pilot, who has 15 years of experience, was not hurt.

He was flying a Zenith aircraft – a “build it yourself” type of plane, also known as a “kitplane”.

He had left the airport across the street from the field, circled, and landed.

But the crash occurred after a second take-off, when he realized the plane was having problems.

The engine cut out when he was roughly 200 feet in the air, and he was unable to start it again.

That’s when he landed in the farmer’s field, located on the side of Highway 20.
