Terre Haute International Airport receives large federal grant

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Terre Haute International Airport received a grant this week, which could change the future of aviation in Terre Haute.

The airport accepted over $380,000 in federal grant money this week. As well as 20,000 more from state and local grants.

The money will be used to conduct a Runway Safety Study, as well as updating the airport master plan for the next 20 years. A new plan would update the airport's equipment.

"We've got some maintenance issues to address. Some of our snow removal equipment is aged. We can get new equipment through federal and state grants. So we'll be looking to get some rolling stock out of this as well,” Dennis Wiss Terre Haute International Airport’s Director said.

Officials say the airport's last master plan has not been updated since 2002 and a brand new plan hasn't been created since 1988.
