Tiger Airways closes Adelaide crew base

Forty Adelaide Tiger Airways workers will have to move to Melbourne if they want to continue working for the airline.

The airline has announced it will close its crew base at Adelaide Airport but says it is prepared to redeploy staff interstate.

Tiger says the move is not connected to today's decision to allow the airline to resume its domestic flights, but was commercially motivated.

Spokeswoman Vanessa Regan says the airline will initially resume flights between Melbourne and Sydney on Friday but will make an announcement about Adelaide flights soon.

"We are actually offering all of staff in Adelaide, all the Tiger staff, redeployment options and employment options to be based in Melbourne Airport Tullamarine, so we'll be working closely with every staff on an individual basis, just to prioritise an optimum outcome for each and every one of them," she said.

Tiger was grounded last month because of concerns about the airline's safety.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has lifted the ban but says it will continue yo closely monitor the airline.

CASA says the revised operating conditions including improved pilot training, rostering and fatigue management.
