The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is closing LaGuardia Airport runway 13-31 for maintenance work from 12 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 to Sunday at noon, according to the agency.
The agency said that its other runway, 4-22, will be used for departures — all of them headed northeast — while the maintenance happens.
Quiet skies activist Susan Carroll told the Chronicle that because the departures are in the northeast direction, Jackson Heights residents should not expect an unusual increase in the loudness of airplane noise.
"Saturdays are not as busy at LaGuardia; that's why they usually do [the maintenance work] then," she said.
