Passenger count climbs by double-digits at Pocatello Regional Airport (KPIH)

POCATELLO — For over a year, Pocatello Regional Airport has been on a roll when it comes to passengers numbers.

According to the latest round of figures compiled by staff, May saw 6,888 travelers take flight, up 18 percent from the 5,851 passengers in May 2016. The figures mark 15 months in a row that passenger numbers have increased by 10 percent or more from the same month the previous year.

“This is phenomenal,” indicated Airport Manager David Allen, adding, “Obviously more and more people are discovering the benefits of flying from Pocatello.”

The year-to-date count is 30,465, up 28 percent over the 23,762 passengers recorded for the same period in 2016. In March of 2016, SkyWest Airlines, serving as the Delta Connection, added a third daily flight on weekdays. This increased the total number of seats available by about 45 percent.

“It’s no coincidence that our double-digit growth began the same month that the capacity increased,” Allen said. “Our primary message to travelers continues to be that you can usually save money and time by flying from Pocatello compared to Salt Lake or Idaho Falls.”

Allen also credits the terminal staff for helping to build passenger demand.

“Everyone who works at the airport strives to ensure we provide the best service possible,” Allen said. “The feedback we’ve heard from travelers shows we’re doing it right.”

The airport continues to make flying easy on passengers and their wallets by offering a series of free amenities including free parking. Other luxuries afforded to passengers include free Wi-Fi, book sharing center courtesy of the Friends of the Marshall Public Library, shoe-shine station by Meyers Shoe Repair, a water refill station from Culligan Water Conditioning of Pocatello, complimentary coffee and a children’s play area from Pocatello Regional Airport.
