Republic Airways Holdings has picked Premier Aviation Overhaul Center at Griffiss International Airport for jet maintenance.
The agreement guarantees Republic hangar capacity starting Jan. 6. Indianapolis, Ind.-based Republic has already begun flying aircraft to Premier to be worked on. Terms of the two-year contract, with extension options, were not announced.
Thursday’s announcement said the agreement includes a line of 47 Embraer 175 aircraft heavy maintenance visits in the first year and a partial line of Embraer 170 jets that is scheduled for completion between February and June.
“It’s very significant for us,” said Dave Diggle, Premier’s vice president for sales and marketing.
He says the contract has the potential to land more Embraer work, noting that of jets flown in the U.S. that seat about 75 passengers, the Embraer line holds about 80 percent of the market.
The Griffiss facility has 379,000 square feet of production capacity and multiple lines of aircraft maintenance. There are upwards of 150 employees, according to Diggle. The agreement boosts Premier’s revenue and expands the company’s customer base.
“This relationship will be of tremendous benefit to both our companies,” said Ronnie Di Bartolo, president and CEO of Premier Aviation. “Republic is relying on Premier’s experience with more than 170 heavy maintenance events, particularly on the E-175 aircraft. In turn, this is excellent for the region of Rome and the Griffiss Business and Technology Park.”
He continued, “We are eager to get started and begin what we are confident will be a successful association and look forward to welcoming Republic to our hangar.”
Diggle said there is adequate capacity at Griffiss to handle the increased workload.
In October, Premier announced a two-year extension of a previous agreement with Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc., for airframe heavy maintenance on the airline’s fleet of Boeing 767-200, 767-300 and 747-400 aircraft. Atlas has been flying planes to Griffiss for maintenance since 2013.
Premier’s headquarters are in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.
Republic Airways owns Republic Airlines and Shuttle America. It flies regional-airline service for large carriers.
