Cessna 182Q Skylane, African Aero Safaris (Pty) Ltd, ZS-SLS: Fatal accident occurred December 16, 2015 in Southern Cape, South Africa

Dog survives Cessna 182Q Skylane crash

Mother and daughter killed in the plane crash.

A little dog travelling with a Pretoria family survived after the light aircraft crashed in Eastern Cape.

The light aircraft flew into the Palmietvlei mountains near the Oyster Bay on Wednesday, Rekord East reported.

Aurora van den Bergh, 54, and her mother Elicia Morrison, 75, were killed in the crash which left her husband Johan, apparently a pilot, in a critical condition in a Port Elizabeth hospital.

Humansdorp police station spokesperson Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said several rescue units from various departments were dispatched to assist with the recovery of a Cessna aircraft.

“A male victim was airlifted to a hospital in Port Elizabeth in a serious condition. Two female occupants died on the scene,” added Swart.

She said a little dog travelling with them survived the crash. The two women had to be cut out of the plane.

The light aircraft reportedly departed from Wonderboom Airport and stopped at Graaff Reinet to refuel. Johan apparently made a distress call to George airport authorities and a search was launched for the light aircraft.

According to unconfirmed reports, the family were on their way to join their two daughters in Plettenberg Bay for the holidays.

Swart said an inquest was underway and civil aviation authorities were investigating.
