Plane struck by laser pointer - Visalia, California

VISALIA - A Visalia man was questioned after allegedly pointing a laser pointer at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department’s airplane Wednesday. Brian Pennington, 40, was identified as the suspect.

The incident happened at about 8 p.m. north of Visalia, when both the pilot and the flight officer on the plane were hit in the eyes with a green laser pointer. The aircraft’s camera system showed that the light came from the backyard of a home in the 4000 block of West Damsen Lane. Visalia Police Department officers, directed by the airplane, responded and contacted Pennington, who was in possession of a laser pointer. He was questioned and released. The investigation will be forwarded to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office for review and possible charges.
