Kris Anderson, EAA Chapter 1093 member and a freshman at Saginaw Valley State University, has earned his certified flight instructor rating.

Anderson, 18, is pilot examiner Kevin Spaulding’s youngest successful flight instructor candidate. Anderson is the son of Melissa and Rob Anderson of Sanford and is a 2014 graduate of H.H. Dow High School.

At age 10 in 2006, Anderson became a Young Eagle as part of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s program to introduce youngsters to aviation. He started flight training when he was 14 1/2, soloed a Cessna 172 at age 16, and earned his private pilot license at age 17. Anderson completed his instrument rating in May 2014 and in June 2014 started working on his commercial pilot license, seaplane rating, multi-engine rating and flight instructor certificate, all of which he has completed.

Anderson comes from a family of pilots, including his father, Rob Anderson, grandfather, Bob Anderson, and great-grandfather, Knute A. Anderson. Unlike his other family members, Kris plans to make a career out of being a pilot. He already has plans to earn his instrument flight instructor rating.
