Challenger II: Accident occurred June 09, 2014 at Huronia Regional Airport (CYEE), Midland, Ontario - Canada

One person has been killed in a plane crash at Huronia Regional Airport.

OPP Sgt. Peter Leon tells CTV News an ultralight plane crashed on landing shortly before 2 p.m. and its 69-year-old pilot is dead. Police aren't identifying the man, but say he is from North Simcoe County.

Officials say the distress alarm sounded after the crash, and the airport then notified police. It's unclear what caused the crash. The pilot had taken off sometime between noon and 1 p.m. this afternoon and was coming in for a landing.

The Transportation Safety Board will be investigating alongside the OPP Identification Unit.

The pilot was the only person in the plane and there were no other injuries.

Ontario Provincial Police investigating fatal plane crash in Tiny Township  

Provincial police are investigating following a fatal plane crash north of Barrie Monday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of the crash at Huronia Regional Airport located in Tiny Township shortly before 2 p.m.

The lone occupant of the plane, a 69-year-old man, was in the process of landing his ultralight aircraft at the south end of the airport when it crashed into the runway, police said.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The identity of the pilot has not been released pending a post-mortem examination and notification of next of kin.
