A pilot walked away with just minor injuries after his light aircraft crashed into a mast at Leeds Bradford Airport today.
The man was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by ambulance after the plane - from one of the training schools at the site - collided with a nearby mast at around 4.15pm.
The airport was closed for 90 minutes, causing some delays for passengers.
Tony Hallwood, aviation development and marketing director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “A single-engine trainer aircraft collided with one of our antenna masts at the airport.
“As a result, the airport was closed for a period of 90 minutes whilst we got the passenger off the aircraft.
“He was treated on site by the medical team.”
Mr Hallwood added: “We have now re-opened the airport.
“Obviously we had a small number of diversions during that period and passengers waiting for their flights will have a few delays this evening.”
A spokesman from West Yorkshire Police said: “At 4.30pm a light aircraft collided with a mast.
“One pilot received minor injuries and flights were briefly stopped.
“The pilot was taken to hospital by ambulance.”
