L.F. Wade International Airport, Bermuda: Emergency landing

The Causeway was temporarily closed off to traffic after a military aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at the airport this afternoon.

The stricken craft was seen circling the L.F. Wade International Airport shortly before 3pm. Eye-witnesses said the plane was repeatedly extending and retracting its landing gear.

A police spokesman then confirmed that a military aircraft was scheduled to make an emergency landing, but could give no other details, except to say: “All emergency protocols are presently going into place including the closing of the Causeway until the matter is under control.”

According to witnesses, the aircraft safely touched down at 3pm, and was immediately surrounded by fire trucks and ambulances.

At 3.05pm the police spokesman confirmed: “The plane is now down safely, without incident and the Causeway is now open.”
