AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- More jobs could be on the way to Augusta Regional Airport.
It all depends on a deal that could put the airport in charge of its parking lot. The final details still have to be finalized, and city leaders have to approve it. Airport authorities say the move could save them money.
Parking in some areas of town could be a problem, but not at the airport. The parking business is going so well for the company that runs it that the airport wants to take over.
"I think the numbers that we saw today indicate that would be an additional $50,000 profit," said Chairman of the Augusta Regional Aviation Commission Doug Lyle.
"We felt like we're getting big enough to bring it in-house and make it worth while," Johnston said.
If the Augusta Regional Aviation Commission approves the plan, Augusta commissioners still have to sign off. Right now, the deal includes adding 22 part-time employees and two possible full-time jobs along with a parking director. The position could pay $70,000 to $90,000.
"Any time you have your own employees performing the service, as opposed to a contract company, you'll have a higher level of customer service," Lyle said. "I would need to see a recommendation from the Airport Authority before I make my decision."
