Scot Spencer: "No comment," upon arriving at John Wayne Airport to face conspiracy charges (With Video)

Embattled former San Bernardino airport developer Scot Spencer arrived at John Wayne Airport in Orange County this afternoon after being extradited from Florida to face conspiracy charges in Superior Court relating to San Bernardino International Airport.

Spencer was flanked by law enforcement officers and had his hands clasped together, with a black cloth laying over his wrists, as he was escorted through the airport. He is charged with five felonies for allegedly attempting to defraud the San Bernardino International Airport Authority of $1.75 million.

Spencer, who was arrested in Florida on Sunday, arrived at John Wayne Airport this afternoon. He repeatedly declined to comment in the case while being led through the airport's terminal.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney has charged Spencer with two counts of conspiracy, two counts of perjury and one count of preparing false documentary evidence. Prosecutors have also charged Spencer's alleged accomplice, Felice G. Luciano, with two counts of conspiracy.

Spencer and Luciano are accused of drafting a fraudulent claim against airport officials. The $1.75 million claim accused the Airport Authority of spoiling Spencer's chance to lease an aircraft to the Democratic National Committee in 2008.

An investigators' affidavit reports no such lease agreement ever existed. Airport officials, however, settled the claim for $1.02 million after receiving a letter from Spencer's lawyer that purported to confirm the lease.

Airport officials have said they will seek to recover the value of the settlement.

District Attorney's spokesman Christopher Lee did not have immediate information as to when Spencer will be arraigned. It was also not immediately known whether Luciano, reported on Monday to be a fugitive, was still at large.
