WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) - Mid-South Community College at West
Memphis has been awarded a $1.5 million grant to help pay for
construction of a building for its aviation maintenance technology
program.
Sen. Mark Pryor and Rep. Rick Crawford say the
grant will help provide students with training for careers in the
aviation industry.
The grant from the U.S. Department of
Commerce-Economic Development Administration will help pay for
construction of a 22,000-square-foot building on land adjacent to the
West Memphis airport. The project includes an aircraft hangar,
classrooms, laboratories, and support areas for the aviation maintenance
program.
The aviation maintenance program was approved for the
college by the Federal Aviation Administration in January 2011 and
currently has 45 students.
