Everyone safe after emergency landing at Yellowknife Airport

Yellowknife, N.W. T. - A scary moment at the Yellowknife Airport had rescue crews on high alert Monday Mar. 5th.

A Buffalo Airways plane had to make an emergency landing at around 10:45 a.m. after its landing gear failed to work.

Department of Transportation spokesperson Earl Blacklock said there were two attempts to loosen the gear, but they were unsuccessful.

"After two touch and go attempts to loosen the landing gear, they made an emergency landing and the landing was successful," said Blacklock.

Blacklock explained that that by midday the plane was out of the way and that everyone on board is okay.

"The plane is now off to the side of the runway. There were six souls on board and all six are mobile and safe," said Blacklock

The incident caused several flights coming in and going out of the airport to be delayed, including arrivals from Calgary and Norman Wells.
