Missouri: Plane crashes in Redwood County; pilot suffers minor injuries

A plane experiencing mechanical problems crashed in Lamberton Township in Redwood County shortly before noon on Thursday.

The pilot, Gary Debaun, 63, of Lakeville, received minor injuries; he was alone in the plane.

The plane was a total loss.

Debaun was piloting a Pitts Special SPS 1 aircraft, a Redwood County Sheriff's Office news release said. He was able to land the plane on U.S. Highway 14, but lost control soon after. The plane entered the ditch and struck several trees before rolling over, the release said.

The Minnesota State Patrol and Lamberton Fire Department and Ambulance assisted the Sheriff's Office on the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Federal Aviation Administration.
