Weird and wonderful aircraft visit Isle of Man in 2011

FROM giant Hercules transporter planes to a visit by the Red Arrows, 2011 was a busy year at Ronaldsway – as these dramatic photographs by former airport director Phil Pain show.

Phil, who retired as airport director in April 2007, has compiled an aviation photo review of 2011 which he has uploaded on to an enthusiasts’ website North West Air News.

He has a security pass – paid for, he stresses, at his own expense – giving unrivalled views of the activity on the apron at Ronaldsway.

But he also takes many of his best photographs from outside the security fence by the Aero Club at Derbyhaven.

Whichever way, the results are impressive.
