PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- A pilot of a small plane made a hard landing in a marshy, wooded area next to the North Palm Beach County Airport Tuesday night.

At about 10:30 p.m., Billy Tabor, 42, from Kentucky, was flying from Pahokee to the North County Airport, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. He was switching fuel tanks upon landing and lost control.

Tabor landed the Cessna 210 plane about one mile off an airport runway west of Palm Beach Gardens, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and an airport spokeswoman.

Emergency crews said they had some difficulty getting to the plane, because of the terrain, but got to the pilot roughly 45 minutes after the landing.

The 210 Cessna model is a six seater, single-engine plane.
