'Suspicious' man questioned after disobeying instructions at Newark airport

NEWARK — An unruly airline passenger bound for London was being questioned by authorities at Newark Liberty International Airport tonight after the flight crew returned to the gate because of his actions, officials said.

The man, who was not identified, was deemed "suspicious" after not following the instructions of the Continental Airlines flight crew as the plane was taxiing to take off around 9 p.m., said Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Ron Marsico.

He said Continental Flight 28 was bound for Heathrow Airport in London.

According to Continental’s website, the flight was scheduled to leave at 7:15 p.m. and arrive at 7:25 a.m. A message on the site read: "Airport conditions preventing departure — Returned to Gate in New York/Newark, NJ (EWR - Liberty)."

The case falls under federal jurisdiction, Marsico said. He added that all of the other passengers on the flight were taken off the plane and rescreened for security.

Officials hope to clear the flight for departure tonight, according to Marsico.
