A plane that plunged into rush-hour traffic near Richmond has claimed another life.

Co-pilot Matt Robic died shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday after spending weeks in critical condition at Vancouver General Hospital.

The 26-year-old was the co-pilot of the Kelowna-bound business flight that crashed near a major roadway on Sea Island, close to Vancouver International Airport on Oct. 27.

North Vancouver pilot Luc Fortin, 44, was killed in the crash and several others sent to the hospital. According to a Vancouver Coastal Health spokeswoman, all other patients have since been released.

While an investigation is still underway, the Transportation Safety Board has said it could take up to a year to determine what caused the crash. The TSB will examine exchanges between the pilot and the YVR control tower, witness interviews, recovered aircraft parts, maintenance and operation records, and weather conditions at the time of the crash.

The plane reportedly experienced an unspecified malfunction shortly after take off and crashed near YVR airport, killing Fortin and leaving 10 others injured.
