Air Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Safety Standards

The management of Air Nigeria would like to again sincerely apologize to its valued customers for the disruptions experienced regarding its flight operations on Monday 14th November 2011. We appreciate and thank you all for the understanding extended to the airline as we sought to address the cause of the disruption; which resulted in the re-commencement of normal flight operations by morning of Tuesday 15th November, 2011.

Air Nigeria reaffirms that ever since the inception of its flight operations, it operates in strict compliance with safety regulations and has at no time compromised on standards. The airline has steadily developed a route network that currently cuts across 10 countries in the Central and West African region as well as a strong presence in the domestic market. The execution of the flight operations and maintenance of its aircraft have been in strict compliance with the NCAA approved maintenance programme. The airline presently runs a Safety Management System Implementation (SMS) under the guidance of International Air Transport Association (IATA), and it is the only Nigerian airline and one of the few airlines in Africa currently implementing this system.

The airline’s management, in its determination to resolve the recent impasse with its engineers, met with the Honourable Minister of Aviation on 15th November 2011. During this meeting, the management team reaffirmed its continuous compliance with all laid down operational and maintenance regulations of the NCAA and IATA. The management hereby confirms Air Nigeria commitment to the implementation of the Honourable Minister’s other directive as regards resolving all the issues.

We wish to assure the general public again that the airline has the requisite personnel, structure and systems to operate safely. The Chief Executive Officer of the airline, Mr. Kinfe Kahssaye, is a hands-on leader and seasoned engineer who started his aviation career with Ethiopian Airlines, and rose to be part of the Executive team at the airline. For 10years, he was part of the Executive team that envisioned and led the successful turn-around and transformation which re-positioned Ethiopian Airlines for the success it enjoys today. He was seconded to Virgin Nigeria in 2009, emerged the CEO of Air Nigeria in 2010. It is worthy of note that Air Nigeria emerged the first West African airline to be IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certified, and have since been re-certified twice.

The Air Nigeria management therefore uses this opportunity to assure its customers and the general public of its continued commitment to safe operations.
