New York: Raised voices needed to combat aircraft noise

Opinion

Should we be concerned that an increasing number of loud, low-flying planes are flying over our homes day and night - 68,408 aircraft in 2010 - making us wish we lived somewhere else?

Should we be concerned that 80 percent of these planes are flying well below the FAA mandated altitude for safety?

Should we be concerned about the health issues associated with jet fuel being spewed down on us?

Should we be concerned that over 90 percent of all aircraft "bird strikes," two of which occurred at JFK last week, occur at altitudes below 2,500 feet?

If we are concerned about these vital issues, it is in our best interest to ask our local elected community officials to join TVASNAC (Town-Village-Aircraft-Safety & Noise Abatement committee), a public advocacy group that meets monthly with FAA and PA officials along with our elected federal, state and township representatives. Join the many town and village members in Hempstead and North Hempstead (516)39-9166.
