INDIA: Fake pilots scam - Delhi Police to file chargesheet

The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police is close to filing its first chargesheet in the fake pilot scam, eight months after the scam was reported.

The Delhi Police has so far arrested 12 pilots and three officials of the airline regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), for allegedly fudging marksheets to procure commercial licenses and Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). The DGCA officials were arrested for allegedly arranging the marksheets in lieu of money. The chargesheet will be filed later this week.

This will be the first time ever that DGCA officials would be chargesheeted for the crime. Till the time a government official is chargesheeted he can continue in office. Though the Crime Branch had arrested the accused, all of them are presently out on bail.

“We will be filing the chargesheets shortly,” said Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime).
