Lights go out at Drayton Valley Municipal Airport

The discovery over of the last weekend of October that lights at the Drayton Valley Municipal Airport aren't functioning likely means there will be no night flights in or out of the facility all winter.

Mayor Moe Hamdon said that due to the timing of the lights going out it would be difficult to repair the problem in the cold weather.

That information comes on the heels of a meeting attended by Hamdon and Town Manager Manny Deol with a group of airport supporters, including a number of pilots, that is looking at work they would like to see done at the municipal facility.

Hamdon said part of that work will involve collecting data on just how many flights are coming in and out of the airport.

Hamdon said he doesn't believe the impact of the lights being out will be significant.

"Hopefully it's just a scheduling thing," he said.
