Laredo Police Department Debates For A Helicopter. (With Video)

Laredo Police Chief Carlos Maldonado says the Police Department continues finding new and cost efficient ways of providing even better security on the border.

Speaking at a Kiwanis club meeting today Maldonado was asked about whether or not the Police Department needed a helicopter. Maldonado said maintaining a helicopter would be a huge burden on their budget but the Police Department currently has an agreement with DPS to request a chopper if needed and they will soon be signing an agreement that would allow the customs air division access to police scanners which would allow officers on the ground to communicate directly with help up in the air. The use of the helicopter will be at no cost to the City of Laredo. Maldonado says the police department is always looking for ways to improve security without adding more costs.
