Governor Rotimi Amaechi wants a bigger jet: The Rivers State governor says the jet his predecessor bought cannot withstand changes in weather conditions

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River State, has said his administration would trade the old plane bought by his predecessor, Peter Odili, for a bigger one because he does not feel safe using it for official trips.

Amaechi was reacting to allegations by Dr. Abiye Sekibo, the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the April polls, that the state was planning to buy a new N7.5 billion jet for the governor.

The governor said the reason for wanting a new jet is because the old jet is not big enough to resist weather changes. “We are not just buying a new plane, we are trading in the old one for something new and I don’t see anything wrong with that," he said.

“If you look at the size of the plane and the current climatic conditions when you fly, you will see how dangerous it is for us to fly in that small sized plane. We are not even buying a very large plane; we are trading it for an improved version. I wouldn’t risk my life because I’m trying to listen to an Abiye Sekibo who is accusing us of corruption. That’s a wrong statement. I will not lead a corrupt government.”
