BLUFFTON, Ohio — A New Bavaria man was seriously injured in a small plane crash this week near here.

Robert Searfoss, 48, was flying a Cessna 172K Skyhawk when he lost control and crashed into a field south of Bluffton Airport at about 5:15 p.m. Monday, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Findlay post. The aircraft struck nose first and flipped over.

Searfoss sustained serious injuries and was flown to St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. He was using his safety belt, according to a news release issued by the Patrol.

The Patrol was assisted by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Bluffton Police Department, Bluffton Fire Department, Mercy Health Life Flight and the Federal Aviation Administration.

  2. Hopefully the pilot will recover. That plane was my fathers back in the 70s.
