Grumman TBM-3U Avenger, N3967A: Incidents occurred May 08, 2022 and June 21, 2018

CLARE, Illinois  —  A Grumman TBM-3U Avenger plane that left the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru had an emergency landing in a field at 5009 Route 64, near Clare in DeKalb County.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said it was called at about noon Saturday when a passerby reported they saw a plane flying low.

The pilot said he left the Peru airport, which is scheduled to host the TBM Avenger Reunion on May 21-22 featuring World War II era planes, for an air show in Poplar Grove. The pilot told deputies his engine caught fire, forcing the emergency landing.

The plane was not damaged and all occupants were without injuries.

     
CLARE, Illinois (WTVO) — A Grumman TBM-3U Avenger aircraft suffered an engine fire and a made a subsequent precautionary landing in a field.

It happened around noon at 5009 State Rt. 64 in Clare, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Police were contacted after someone saw a plane flying low. The pilot reported that he was flying from Peru, Illinois to an air show in Poplar Grove.

The pilot had to make an emergency landing in the field due to the fire. The plane was not damaged and no one was injured.


DEKALB COUNTY, Illinois (WREX) — No one was hurt after a vintage aircraft made a emergency landing in DeKalb County Saturday.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says a passerby reported a plane flying low near Illinois Route 64 at around noon Saturday.

The pilot of a Grumman TBM-3U Avenger says he was flying from Peru, Illinois to Poplar Grove for an air show when his engine caught fire.

The plane made an emergency landing in a field in the 5000 block of Illinois Route 64.

Authorities say the plane was not damaged in the landing and nobody was hurt.

The Tunison Foundation DC-3/C-47 Placid Lassie arrived Sunday, May 1, 2022, to Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru for the TBM Avenger Reunion later in the month. It is the second warbird to arrive.

The skies over Peru came to life with the unmistakable rumble of radials as the Tunison Foundation DC-3/C-47 “Placid Lassie” arrived Sunday at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport for the 2022 TBM Avenger Reunion.

The event is scheduled Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21, this spring.

The Placid Lassie is the second warbird arrival for the event. For those keeping track at home, “She’s The Boss” was the first TBM to arrive.
