CLAY COUNTY, Indiana (WTHI) - A small plane made an emergency landing in Clay County on Saturday afternoon. This happened at 46 and 59 in a field north of 200 West.

Michael Lehmkuhl of Minnesota tells us he was flying from Air Lake Airport in Minnesota and heading to Bloomington. He tells us he was going on an errand to pick up a bicycle for his friend.

While in the air, he says when he was transitioning into landing when he ended up having a problem with the engine. The engine began losing power quickly, but it was not a complete engine failure.

Lehmkuhl was the only one on the plane. He has no injuries.

He says he is thankful to be on the ground safe and sound.

"Luckily, pilots are trained to deal with these kinds of situations," he said. "I never thought I would have to use that part of my training... But very quickly the training kicks in and you think 'I'm going to land here somewhere and figure out how to get the plane down safely."

Lehmkuhl has been a pilot for 10 years. He says he wants to thank all of his flight instructors for preparing him for an unexpected moment like this one.
