The Cessna 172/182/210/337 retractable gear design that twists and then folds back like a bird's legs is notoriously complex and prone to failure over a more traditional under-belly straight in retraction. That said, if I were a betting person, my money would be on a missed-checklist gear down pilot error over a mechanical failure. And I'd bet $1,000 on that. Any bookie takers in Vegas want in on my window call action?
