On August 5, 2021, at 2115 eastern daylight time, a Piper J3C-65, N6269H, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Gosport, Indiana. The pilot was uninjured. The airplane was operated as a Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.
The pilot stated that during cruise flight, the airplane experienced “quite a bit” of vibration followed by the airplane engine ceasing operation. The pilot performed a forced landing to a field that resulted in a nose-over and substantial damage to the rudder.
The airplane wreckage was retained for further examination.
