On July 19, 2019, at 0700 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 210-5 (205), N8260Z, experienced a nose landing gear collapse during an aborted takeoff at the Columbia Gorge Regional/The Dalles Municipal Airport (DLS), The Dalles, Oregon. The private pilot was not injured; the airplane was destroyed by the postcrash fire. The pilot/owner operated the airplane under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local area flight and no flight plan had been field.

According to the pilot, he arrived at the airport, checked the weather and performed a preflight inspection with no concerns noted. He started the engine, monitored the instruments and received a clearance to taxi to runway 31. The pilot performed the engine run up with no discrepancies noted and received a clearance for departure. During the take off roll, he reported that there was no airspeed indicated; however, there was no issue with the engine. He decided to abort the takeoff and pulled the throttle back. The pilot stated that he simultaneously pulled back on the yoke and the airplane lifted off the runway, he reduced the back pressure and the airplane started to porpoise down the runway; he recalled that there were 3-4 bounces that increased in height until the nose landing gear collapsed and the airplane slid down the runway. He opened the door and exited and saw flames near the pilot side door. The airplane was subsequently consumed by the postcrash fire.
