FedEx worker killed at airport hub identified by police

Ellen Gladney

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -  Memphis Police Department identified the FedEx worker killed at the company's airport hub on Thanksgiving morning.

Ellen Gladney was found dead at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, under a motorized mobile conveyer belt system.

Airport police and Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the death--their investigation is expected to last 8-10 weeks.

“We worked together for a while and I was the team leader up there,” said Ellen’s former coworker Shenita Leach.

Close friends, family and said Ellen was a grandmother and full of life. She had a big smile and loved helping others.

“Funny, sweet person, very outspoken,” Leach said. “I felt sad because working out there you never what to expect.”

Gladney is the third FedEx worker killed at the Memphis airport hub in the past three and a half years.

Leach doesn't work for FedEx anymore, but she wants to see more done there to address safety.

“They just have to come up with a better plan because this can't continue to keep happening,” Leach said. “I would hate for it to be my mom or my brother or my friends.”
