Incident occurred November 09, 2017 at Hartsfield - Jackson Atlanta International Airport (KATL), Georgia

Boarding on a Delta Air Lines plane was stopped Thursday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after about 1,000 gallons of fuel spilled, an official said.

Normal operations have resumed, airport officials said in a Twitter post about 2:30 p.m. “The fuel spill incident has cleared,” the post read.

The spill happened about 10:15 a.m., airport officials said in an earlier Twitter post.

An issue developed with a fuel-servicing unit, Delta spokesman Michael Thomas said in a statement.

“Boarding of a nearby aircraft was halted as a precaution and the area closed off while containment efforts were put in place,” Thomas said.

The spill happened at Concourse E, Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Cortez Stafford said. A couple of gates were evacuated.

No injuries were reported, and Delta operations weren’t disrupted, Thomas said.
