Morgantown Municipal Airport (KMGW), Monongalia County, West Virginia: Council waits for runway OK

MORGANTOWN — Morgantown City Manager Paul Brake said the city is awaiting a “very, very significant” decision from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding the future of the city’s runway extension project.

During the September 19th regular meeting of Morgantown City Council, Brake explained that the city is waiting to hear if the FAA believes the 1,401-foot runway extension at the heart of the airport improvement plan is squared away and cleared for takeoff.

“The justification study is the first trigger that says we have met the criteria of the FAA and submitted the proper documentation to go through that justification,” Brake explained, adding that he’s confident the city will be given the go-ahead.

Brake said word could come as soon as October for the project, now estimated at between $35 million to $40 million.
