Honda tops small-business-jet shipments in January-June

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Honda Aircraft Co., the United States aviation arm of Honda Motor Co., delivered 24 small business jets in the first half of 2017, capturing the top spot in the world in the category, according to the Japanese automaker.

Honda Aircraft, headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, said it has ramped up its production pace to a rate of around four units per month lately, and it has delivered its advanced light jets to customers in the United States, Canada, Mexico and European countries during the six-month period.

Since the start of their shipments in December 2015, a total of 48 units have been delivered so far, mostly to wealthy clients in North America and Europe, according to the company.

The business jet, priced at $4.9 million, is known for its distinctive design including the engine mounted over the wing that created more space for passengers.

Honda Aircraft aims to manufacture 80 aircraft, deemed the fastest and the most fuel-efficient in the class, per year in the future.

"Our customers are extremely pleased with the performance, comfort and superior fit and finish of the HondaJet," Honda Aircraft President Michimasa Fujino said in a recent press release. "We want to create new value in business aviation and I hope to see many more HondaJets flying all over the world," he said.
