On May 20, 2017, about 1303 Pacific daylight time, an experimental Extra Flugzeugbau EA 300/S, N68PW, sustained substantial damage after the canopy separated from the airplane during takeoff roll at the Eastern Oregon Regional Airport at Pendleton (PDT) Pendleton, Oregon. The airplane was registered to and operated by Precision Aerosports, LLC under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The Airline Transport pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan had been filed for the local flight.

During a telephone interview with the National Transportation Safety Board investigator-in-charge (IIC), the pilot stated that shortly after the start of the takeoff roll, the canopy began to lift up and then separated from the airplane.

The airplane was recovered to a secure location for further examination.
