The pilot reported that, during the takeoff roll on a narrow runway about 70 to 80 knots, he noticed that the engines were not at full power. He advanced the throttles “a little further,” but when he did so, the left main landing gear dropped off the left side of the runway into soft mud. Subsequently, the airplane veered off the runway to the left, the nose gear collapsed, and the airplane stopped in the mud.

The fuselage and engine firewalls sustained substantial damage.

The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during takeoff.

The pilot did not report any preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

FRESNO COUNTY, California -   New information is coming in on a plane takeoff mishap that happened just after 4:00 this afternoon near Five Points.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a plane crash near Highway 145 and Napa in Coalinga.

CHP arrived first and made contact with the pilot, a 66 year old man from Hanford. He said that as he was about to take off, he experienced engine throttle problems and he drifted off of the runway.

The Beechcraft B200 Super King Air was never airborne and came to rest about 200 feet off the runway.

The pilot complained of pain to his ribs.  EMS treated and released him at the scene.

The investigation is being handled by NTSB.
