NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.

The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that, during the final approach, the airplane was too low, which he failed to notice and correct. Subsequently, the airplane landed short of the runway threshold in about 3 ft of snow and nosed over. 
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left lift strut, firewall, and empennage. 
The pilot reported no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot’s failure to maintain an appropriate descent rate during approach, which resulted in landing short of the runway threshold. 

The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during the final approach, the airplane was too low, which he failed to notice and correct. Subsequently, the airplane landed short of the runway threshold in about 3 feet of snow and nosed over.

OTHER EQUIPMENT:      Basic Instruments.  

DESCRIPTION OF ACCIDENT:  The pilot touched down in snow short of the runway. This caused the aircraft to become inverted.

DESCRIPTION OF DAMAGES: Damages to propeller, cowling, fuselage, and wings.

REMARKS:           Aircraft has been recovered from the scene.
